Copying and Moving Data

Cut takes the selected data and places it on the Windows Clipboard ready to transfer elsewhere. The selected data is removed from the original box. Pressing the CTRL+X keys also cuts the selected data.
To understand the function of Cut (and Copy and Paste) it is necessary to appreciate the nature of a Windows feature called the Clipboard. The Clipboard provides temporary storage for information that you want to transfer from one part of a Windows application to another. Data in the Clipboard can also be transferred to another package, such as a word processor.

Within a data entry table, the Delete Row option deletes the row in which the insertion point is located to the Clipboard ready for pasting. The row that is deleted is removed from the table. Pressing F8 also deletes a row.

Copy places a copy of the selected information on the Clipboard; it does not remove the data from the original box. Pressing the CTRL+C keys also copy the selected data.

Within a data entry table, if you have data in a cell you can copy this data to the cell below. Select the cell you wish to copy data to, choose the Duplicate Cell option and the contents of the cell above are copied to the selected cell. Pressing F6 also duplicates a cell.

Paste takes what the Clipboard currently holds and places it at the spot where the insertion point is located. Pressing the CTRL+V keys also pastes the data.
To cut (or copy) data and paste it to another location
1. Select the data to be transferred.
2. Open the Edit menu and choose the Cut (or Copy) option.
If the cut option is chosen, the selected data will disappear. If the copy option is chosen, the selected data will remain in its original location.
3. Place the insertion point exactly where you would like the information placed. You can move information around the same document, between documents, or even to documents in different applications.
4. Open the Edit menu again and choose the Paste option.
If data is moved to another application, open the Edit menu and choose the Paste option in that application, not the original.
The data that was initially cut (or copied) appears at the location of the insertion point.

Within a data entry table, the Insert Row option shifts the row in which the insertion point is located, and all of the following rows, down one place, thus creating an empty row into the table. Pressing F7 also inserts a row.

Your Instant program provides extra tools to help you work with data. These are found on the Edit menu but can also be activated via short cut keys. The Edit menu includes the Cut, Copy and Paste options to help you repeat or edit data already entered into your Sage program. For example, if you are creating an invoice you can use these options to copy data from one text box to another.

The Delete and Insert Row options are available when you are working in data entry tables.

If an option is 'greyed' out, then it is not available for use at the present time.
